After graduating from Araneta University in the Philippines in 1979, Dr. Andrew Turkell chose South Florida as the place where he wanted to live and practice. He acquired Lake Worth Animal Hospital in 1980, where he practiced for over 20 years.
Realizing the need for high quality/high touch veterinary medicine in other locales, Dr. Turkell opened Boynton Beach Animal Hospital in 1985, followed by Calusa Animal Hospital in Boca Raton in 1990 and Island Animal Hospital in Palm Beach in 1995. In September 2006, Dr. Turkell realized his 25-year dream by opening the Calusa Veterinary Center, a state-of-the-art facility that marks a move and expansion from the former Calusa Animal Hospital, which enjoyed 16 years of continuous growth.
